The Wadden island Vlieland in Holland is one of my favorite destinations. I love to watch sunrises and sunsets at the peaceful beach. There is a lot to do on this small island, but the best activity is a seal watching boat trip on the Wadden Sea to watch seals in their natural habitat. I go on a seal trip every time I visit the island. As I wrote in an earlier blog post, most Dutch Wadden islands offer ‘robbentochten‘ as we call these seals tours. But the tours at Vlieland are by far the best. You go out on the sea on a small boat, mostly ribboats. The ride itself is spectaculair as the driver likes to pull off a show making sharp turns at high speed. When you come closer to the seals, the driver slows down and turns off the engines so the seals are not disturbed in their resting time. Then it’s time to relax, to enjoy the hunderds of seals resting and to take many, many photos. It’s great to see the seals rest and argue for the best spot. Here is an impression of a ‘robbentocht’ on the island Vlieland.
